Four GMT-Master IIs: Pepsi, Root Beer, Sprite and the Grey-and-Black 126713GRNR

Same movement, four very different personalities.

Key takeaways
  • 01All four: 40mm, calibre 3285, about 70 hours, independently jumping local hour hand.
  • 02126710BLRO Pepsi: steel, red/blue bezel; Jubilee from 2018, Oyster from 2021.
  • 03126711CHNR Root Beer: Everose Rolesor, black/brown bezel, Oyster bracelet.
  • 04126720VTNR Sprite: left-handed, green/black bezel. 126713GRNR: yellow Rolesor, grey/black bezel, Jubilee (2023).

Short on time? All four share the same 40mm case and calibre 3285 with about 70 hours of power reserve. What separates them is metal, bezel colour, bracelet and, in one case, which wrist it's built for. The Pepsi is the classic steel one. The Root Beer is two-tone with Everose gold. The Sprite is the left-handed one. The 126713GRNR is yellow gold and steel with a grey and black bezel. We have all four in the safe.

Backstory

The GMT-Master was made for pilots: a 24-hour hand and a two-colour bezel so you can track a second time zone. The modern GMT-Master II does the same job better, with a local hour hand that jumps independently so you can change time zones without stopping the watch. All four of these run the calibre 3285, so the choice comes down to looks and how you'll wear it.

126710BLRO "Pepsi": the Classic

Steel, red and blue Cerachrom bezel, launched in 2018 on the Jubilee bracelet, with an Oyster version added in 2021. It's the GMT most people picture, and the most versatile of the four. Ours is on the Jubilee, which suits it beautifully. There's more on it in our Pepsi guide.

126711CHNR "Root Beer": the Warm One

Everose Rolesor: Oystersteel with 18k Everose gold, a black and brown bezel, and an Oyster bracelet. Launched in 2018 as a nod to the 1970s "Root Beer". It's dressier and warmer than the Pepsi, and the brown bezel is easier to wear with everyday clothes than you'd expect. Ours is a 2019 full set with its white tag. More in our Root Beer guide.

126720VTNR "Sprite": the Left-Handed One

Steel, green and black bezel, and the crown and date moved to 9 o'clock so it sits comfortably on the right wrist. Launched in 2022, on Jubilee or Oyster. For lefties it's the most comfortable GMT ever made. For everyone else it's a conversation starter. We have three, two on Jubilee and one on Oyster. See our Sprite guide.

126713GRNR: the Two-Tone

Yellow Rolesor, Oystersteel with 18k yellow gold, a grey and black bezel, and a Jubilee bracelet. Introduced in 2023, it brought yellow Rolesor back to the GMT-Master II. It's the boldest of the four and the most "classic Rolex" in spirit. Ours is unworn. More in our 126713GRNR guide.

Which One We'd Pick

  • One watch for everything: the Pepsi.
  • Something warmer and a bit dressier: the Root Beer.
  • You wear your watch on the right wrist: the Sprite, no question.
  • You want gold that people notice: the 126713GRNR.

Final Thoughts

It's the same watch underneath, so there's no wrong choice. Pick the one you'll want to look at every day. If you're stuck, come and try them on in Barsha Heights.

All four are in the safe: the Pepsi, the Root Beer, the Sprite and the 126713GRNR.
