Backstory

The Oyster Perpetual is Rolex at its most basic. The Oyster case came in 1926, and the Perpetual self-winding rotor in 1931. Put them together and you have a waterproof automatic watch that tells the time and nothing else. No date, no bezel, no complications.

For decades it was the entry point to Rolex, and not many people got excited about it. That changed in 2020. Rolex refreshed the range with a set of bright lacquered dials, and the turquoise blue was the one that took off. Almost overnight, the simplest Rolex became one of the hardest to find.

Key Details

The case is 31mm Oystersteel with a smooth, domed bezel and a Twinlock screw-down crown, water resistant to 100 metres. The dial is turquoise blue lacquer with applied hour markers and luminescent hands. People call it the "Tiffany" because the colour is close to Tiffany & Co.'s signature blue, but Rolex never used that name.

The 31mm size is usually thought of as a women's watch, but plenty of men with smaller wrists wear it too. It's a lot of colour on a small dial, which is exactly the appeal.

The Movement

Inside is the calibre 2232, an automatic with a Syloxi silicon hairspring and about 55 hours of power reserve. Like every modern Rolex, it's certified as a Superlative Chronometer.

On the Wrist

It's light, thin and comfortable, and the Oyster bracelet with its Easylink extension makes it easy to get a perfect fit. The colour does all the talking. You won't wear it without someone noticing.

The honest downside: no date, and a bright dial won't suit everything you wear. That's part of the deal with this watch.

Final Thoughts

The turquoise OP took the plainest Rolex and turned it into the one everybody wants. At 31mm it's a really easy watch to live with.

Ours is an unworn 2026 Oyster Perpetual 31 277200 in turquoise, full set.
