Rolex
Cosmograph Daytona — Black Dial
The steel Daytona that turned Rolex into a chronograph manufacture — a 2010 black-dial 116520, complete with box and papers and polished to present like new.
On this piece
The 116520 is the Daytona that brought the chronograph movement in-house. Launched in 2000 to replace the Zenith-based 16520, it introduced calibre 4130 — a column-wheel, vertical-clutch automatic chronograph built with far fewer parts than a conventional design, and a 72-hour power reserve that was class-leading at the time. It ran until 2016, when the ceramic-bezel 116500LN took over, which makes the 116520 the last steel Daytona with a steel tachymeter bezel. This example is from 2010, deep into the reference's mature production. The black dial with silver-ringed sub-counters is the sportier, more understated of the two dial options, and it reads beautifully against the brushed and polished steel. It comes as a full set with its original box and papers, and the case and bracelet have been polished, so it presents like new.
