Short on time? In the space of about six months, F.P. Journe broke the auction record for an independent watchmaker twice. Phillips sold the FFC prototype made for Francis Ford Coppola for US$10,755,000 in New York in December 2025. Then in June 2026, also in New York, the Chronomètre à Résonance "Souscription No. 007" made US$13,922,000. In between, Phillips' May 2026 Geneva sale saw Journes fly past their estimates. The next test is Geneva, 7–8 November 2026, where Phillips is offering a platinum Résonance "Régence" estimated at over CHF 1 million and one of the earliest Résonances ever made.

Backstory
We've told the full story of François-Paul Journe elsewhere: the clock-restoring years with his uncle in Paris, the tourbillon pocket watch, the brand founded in Geneva in 1999. The short version is that Journe has always made very few watches, about 900 a year by the brand's own count, and designed and built them his own way.
For a long time that made him a collector's secret. Over the last few years it's made him something else: the independent that auction houses build their sales around.
The Records
December 2025, Phillips New York. The FFC prototype, a 42mm platinum watch Journe made for the film director Francis Ford Coppola, with the hours shown by an animated mechanical hand, sold for US$10,755,000 against an estimate of "in excess of US$1 million". That set a new world auction record for both F.P. Journe and any independent watchmaker.
May 2026, Phillips Geneva. Journe had a huge sale. A Chronomètre à Résonance "Souscription No. 18" in platinum and pink gold, from around 2000, made CHF 4,875,500 against an estimate of CHF 450,000–900,000. The "Pisa" Résonance made CHF 2,334,500. An early Octa Chronographe from 2001 made CHF 1,714,500, more than five times its high estimate. A 2003 Tourbillon Souverain made CHF 1,524,000. Reports from the sale say the nine Journes on offer set six records between them. That same week at Christie's Geneva, the top lot was a platinum Journe Tourbillon Souverain, which sold for more than US$3.1 million, over double its high estimate.
June 2026, Phillips New York. Then came Souscription No. 007. It's one of the Chronomètre à Résonance pieces Journe made for the founding clients who paid in advance to help him start the brand, which is what "Souscription" means. It sold for US$13,922,000. Phillips called it a new record for any independent watchmaker, for F.P. Journe and for any 21st-century watch at a commercial auction. Every Journe in that sale passed its estimate.

Why Journe Sells Like This
A few things come up again and again in these results.
The early watches. The highest prices go to pieces from the first few years: Souscription watches, pre-production pieces and brass movements. Journe switched from brass to 18k gold movements in 2004, so anything earlier is a different kind of object for collectors. That's why our own Octa Calendrier from the Ruthenium series, with its brass movement, gets so much attention.
The stories. Coppola's FFC is a good example. It's an unusual watch made for one person, by one watchmaker, over years. Auction buyers pay for that.
Supply. Journe makes very few watches and doesn't chase volume. When early pieces come up, they often haven't been on the market for decades.
What's Coming in November
Phillips' Geneva Watch Auction: XXIV runs on 7 and 8 November 2026 at the Hotel President Wilson in Geneva. Its Journe line-up includes:
- Chronomètre à Résonance "Régence", in platinum with a hand-engraved dial, estimated at over CHF 1 million.
- Chronomètre à Résonance 022/99R, a 38mm platinum pre-production piece with a pink gold dial and a brass movement. Phillips describes it as one of around ten pre-production examples and the earliest commercially numbered Résonance, and it's been with its first owner for 27 years. The estimate is CHF 500,000–1,000,000.
- Vagabondage III in platinum with diamonds, estimated at CHF 350,000–700,000.
Christie's (Rare Watches, 9 November) and Sotheby's (Important Watches, around 8–9 November) also hold Geneva sales that week. Early previews mention F.P. Journe pieces at both, but the lot details weren't confirmed in their catalogues when we wrote this, so we'll update this article once they are.
The Honest View
Records make headlines, but they're about a handful of very rare, early or unique watches. A standard modern Journe is a different market, and auction results for the greats don't automatically carry over to everything with the name on the dial. Prices this high can also cool off. We'd buy a Journe because we love how it's made, not because of a hammer price in Geneva.
Final Thoughts
F.P. Journe has gone from an independent that collectors whispered about to the name setting records at the biggest auction houses in the world. November in Geneva will show whether 2026 was a peak or just another step up.
If you'd like a Journe without the auction room, we have a few in the safe: a Tourbillon Souverain, a brass-movement Octa Calendrier Ruthenium and an Octa UTC Boutique Edition.
